The Old Orchard
neighborhood with tree-lined streets is one of the original
communities built by the Newhall Land Company in the new town
of Valencia. |
Starting in the 1960s, the Newhall Land company
began to develop a new town on the ranch
property the Newhall family had owned since the mid 1800s. That new
town was called Valencia, after the oranges grown on
the ranch.
The first neighborhood was, appropriately
enough, called "Old Orchard". In the decades that
followed, other neighborhoods were built and that development continues
to the present as Valencia spreads out across thousands of acres
of the Santa Clarita Valley.

A path for walking and
cycling meanders through the Old Orchard neighborhood and
connects with the over 20 miles of bike paths in Santa Clarita. |
This new town, now part of the city of Santa
Clarita, includes districts for housing, recreation, shopping, and
entertainment -- as well as light industrial and commercial centers.
The center for shopping and dining is at the Valencia
Town Centre.

Northbridge, one of the more recent neighborhoods built by the
Newhall Land Company in Santa Clarita. |
One very spectacular and unique neighborhood in
Valencia is Bridgeport. It is built around several man-made canals
and includes luxury homes as well as condos.
