Decades before there was the city of Santa
Clarita, there were two small towns in the Valley: Newhall and Saugus.
The Santa Clarita Valley was simply an area of ranches and farms in northern Los
Angeles County. Newhall was the place where ranchers bought groceries
and other needs -- and, at Saugus, shipped out what they produced via
the railroad that runs along San Fernando Road. As new developments
were built, and ranching became less important, Newhall and Saugus
were absorbed into what is now Santa Clarita.

The Canyon Theater Guild occupies
this building in old town Newhall and offers family-oriented
productions and children's theater. |
Today, Newhall is undergoing a revival and now
has a distinctly multicultural flavor. This neighborhood includes
small, older homes on both big and small lots, as well as luxurious
custom homes, hidden away among the trees in the hillsides. It is
definitely not a neighborhood of mass-produced production homes.
Each house is the result of one person's unique vision of what a home
should be. And there are homes for sale to fit almost every
budget!
The Old West still lives in Newhall's Western
Walk of Fame and the William
S. Hart Regional Park with its exhibition of Western life and an
example of an old-time ranch house and the original Saugus train
station.
